West Loop Animal Hospital was founded in 1969 by Dr. Joe McKnight. Our West Loop location was the very first building located on the newly constructed Loop 281. In 1981, Dr. Owens and Dr. Howard joined the practice and were later joined by Dr. Balliett in 1986. Due to the growth of West Loop's thriving practice, Animal Clinic at the Crossings was established in 1997.
Dr. Howard has a unique claim to fame -- he measured the previously held title of the world's tallest horse! Priefert Farms' "Goliath", an 8-year-old Percheron stands 19 hands and one-inch at the withers. That's 6 feet, five inches at the top point of the horse's shoulder! On July 24, 2003 Priefert held a press conference to certify Goliath's stature. Guinness Book of World Records confirmed the prestigious title on July 11, 2003.
